At Congregation Beth Elohim Early Childhood Center, early childhood education is core to our mission. Founded in 1978, Congregation Beth Elohim Early Childhood Center (ECC) is dedicated to providing young children with an environment that nurtures their growth, intellect and self-esteem.

Our curriculum emerges from the children’s interests, ideas and experiences and allows them ample opportunities to interact, problem solve, express their thoughts and ideas and reflect on their learning. This philosophy allows children to construct new knowledge and become active participants in their own learning through interactions with each other, their teachers and their environment.

We are seeking a Head Teacher beginning September 2024

Responsibilities:

• Create, plan and implement a rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum in a joyful and nurturing learning environment
• Be a collaborative team leader and mentor, responsible for creating a positive classroom culture and fostering partnerships with families.
• Mentor assistant teachers: supervise, guide, and model professional behavior and pedagogy. Provide opportunities for assistants to acquire and practice new teaching skills.
• Positively manage student behavior and maintain a supportive learning environment by establishing developmentally appropriate rules that are in accordance with the philosophy of the school.
• Build a classroom community which is inclusive of all children. Differentiate instruction as needed to meet students’ individual needs and ensure their growth.
• Document student learning experiences through photographs, school displays and anecdotal notes.
• Participate in all staff meetings, team meetings, scheduled weekly team planning sessions, parent conferences, staff development workshops, and community building and holiday events in the afternoon, evening and on weekends as required.
• Maintain a safe, clean and orderly classroom environment.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in early childhood education or related field
• At least 2 years classroom or field experience
• Valid New York State teacher certification in early childhood education , related field or meet study plan eligibility
• Strong commitment to inquiry based education and the skills to implement a process focused curriculum
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication

Salary

$65,000-$70,000 Annually, plus benefits.
